Controversial Bill to be Debated

On Monday, October 7th the County Council will hold a public hearing on a controversial bill (68-19) that will significantly change the current forest conservation law.  The Pittman Administration has proposed the bill and many members of the civic and business community have voiced their concerns.  A number of amendments have been proposed to help “fine-tune” the bill but a number of significant questions still remain.   A large crowd is expected to attend the public hearing the voice their concern and watch the proceeding.  A vote is not expected on Monday night but this will be the start of the process to finalize and approve some type of update for the forest conservation law.  The Chamber is concerned about changes to the current law that are not fully analyzed and lack enough professional input from technical experts.  Stay tuned for more information about this important issue as it unfolds.
