June CEO Monthly – Networking Mixers, Tech Tax & Economic Outlook

A Message From Mark Kleinschmidt
President/CEO

Summer is here, and I hope you’re ready for a busy and profitable season! Anne Arundel County comes alive during this time, with many folks taking advantage of a multitude of special events and, of course, enjoying the beautiful Chesapeake Bay.

To help you make the most of the season, we have three fantastic networking mixers planned over the next few weeks. These events will provide you with a great opportunity to connect with potential customers while checking out some soccer, taking aim with a bow and arrow and setting sail on the Chesapeake.

If you’re looking for more ways to connect with your customers, don’t miss our June Moving Forward Webinar. It will cover Tools, Trends, and Tactics that can maximize your marketing efforts—a valuable session for any business looking to enhance its marketing strategy.

Additionally, I want to bring your attention to the recently passed Tech Tax, which will go into effect on July 1. Many members may experience a 3% tax on IT services, which could lead to increased costs. Check out the Tech Tax overview below for more details.

Lastly, make sure you don’t miss next week’s Economic Outlook Lunch. With so much uncertainty surrounding future economic conditions, it’s crucial to gain insight from experts. We are fortunate to have Anirban Basu, one of the nation’s most regarded economists, who will share his insights on both the national economy and specifically on Anne Arundel County.

Thank you for your continued membership and support. We look forward to seeing you soon

Moving Forward,
Mark

Tech Tax Goes into Effect July 1

What does it mean for your business?

The new Tech Tax goes into effect on July 1. It is considered an expansion of the existing Sales and Use Tax. There is some confusion in determining what tech subscriptions and technology services are impacted by the Tech Tax. If your business falls into the main NAICS category of Computer Systems and Related Services (5415) you will have to collect this tax and make a monthly payment to the state.

If you are a user of these service your costs will be going up 3%. There is still a great deal of confusion about the bill as the Comptrollers Office is still working out the details.

To get a more complete run down on what the new Tech Tax means to your business if you are in the Computer Systems and Related Services category, you can check out this web site: Tech Tax Explained, which is hosted by the Comptrollers Office.
