Chamber Committees

Legislative Committee

Committee Chair: Steven Brown, McAllister, DeTar, Showalter & Walker LLC

WHO: This is a fully engaged committee that takes proactive stances on state, county, and city legislation that impact regional businesses and the economy. Each year, this committee drafts the Chamber’s legislative priorities, reviews pending legislation and regulatory initiatives, lobbies on behalf of business interests, and seeks solutions for some of the most pressing issues facing businesses in the region. Such issues include the rising cost of healthcare, public infrastructure, land-use and development, the environment, and taxes/fees.

WHY JOIN: Highly respected for its thoroughness and pragmatic approach to solving problems, this committee has earned the respect and admiration of elected and appointed officials at all levels of Government, and is continually contacted by legislators for input on pending and proposed legislation impacting the business community and the regional economy.

Workforce Development Committee

Committee Chair: Vollie Melson, Anne Arundel Community College Foundation

WHO: Since its inception in 2021, this committee took on the initiative to help HR professionals in the county tackle employment issues caused by the pandemic. They implemented an HR Roundtable which brings HR professionals, of all size businesses, together quarterly to share and collaborate on key issues such as new HR legislation, employee recruitment and retention, DEI and more.

WHY JOIN:  Economic Development Committee Members are often the first to know of new employment legislation and have access to HR executives in the county who usually aren’t in attendance at networking events. Committee members will also assist in the planning of workforce development seminars/webinars.

HR Execs interested in joining the HR Roundtable should e-mail Mark at mark@aaaccc.org

Membership Development/Ambassador Committee

Committee Chair: Marty Padden/The Capital Gazette

WHO: This committee’s role is to support membership outreach and retention for the Chamber. The committee consists of dedicated volunteers who introduce prospective members to Chamber staff and provide support and mentorship to new members through various communication channels and event attendance.

WHY JOIN? Chamber Ambassadors exhibit the vision and values of the Chamber while promoting their business mission within the arena of the Chamber. They are the welcoming arm of the Chamber and therefore have more opportunities to build great business relationships, not only with each other, but with new and prospective members.
