I hope everyone had either a restful or prosperous Labor Day Weekend (depending on the type of business you are in). It’s crazy that we’ve closed out summer and are gearing up for fall. I’m happy to report that there was no summer slump for us here at the Anne Arundel Chamber! We’ve added over 30 new members, hosted 15+ events with over 600 attendees just since June! The fall doesn’t seem to be slowing down either!

A few highlights to note are the ever-popular Midsummer’s Night Cruise on Watermark’s Catherine Marie which hosted 175 attendees who enjoyed sunset views, delicious bites from our talented catering members and some bingo networking fun!
August flew by after 4-days of Pickleball action between the Blue Crab Classic Tournament and the Drink & Dink Corporate Challenge. We pride ourselves on offering our members unique opportunities for connections and these two events do just that!

Thanks to all who completed the member survey last month. It’s actually still open so if you haven’t had a chance to complete it, it takes less than 5 minutes to complete and your feedback is very much appreciated. Plus, you’ll be entered into the drawing for round-trip airfare from Southwest Airlines to the destination of your choice! The Board of Directors will meet in November to review the results and strategize on how to best implement the priorities and feedback shared by members.
Lastly, on the legislative front, State and County election campaigns are in full swing and our legislative committee is finalizing the best format to bring the candidates together so that you can make the most informed vote in November. Stay tuned for more details. Additionally, on the State level, we are hosting a webinar on 10/7 with the Department of Labor on Maryland’s new Family and Medical Leave Insurance plan going into effect in 2027. Any employers wishing to apply for a private plan in 2027 and wish to be exempt from contributions during the seeding period, must submit a Declaration of Intent (DOI) between September 1-November 15, 2026. Finally, at the City level, please take note of the Annapolis Business Roundtable event below and stay tuned for the return of our Coffee & Conversation Meet & Greets in October with Ward 1 Alderman, Harry Huntley.
